October... Month of the Holy Rosary

“The Rosary is a school for learning true Christian perfection.” --Pope John XXIII

Last week I shared in a post and podcast about some of the things I love about October. Another thing I love about October comes from the Roman Catholic Church tradition... October is dedicated as the Month of The Holy Rosary!! It is for the encouragement of praying the Rosary daily. There is also a Feast Day of the Holy Rosary too, Our Lady of the Rosary, which is today, 7th October. Praying the Rosary is one of my favorite forms of prayer.

The Rosary is a special prayer devotion designed for contemplating the great mysteries of the lives of Jesus and Mary. Praying the Rosary is a wonderful way to honor Mary, the Blessed Mother, to be in companionship with her. And wherever Mary is, there is Jesus too! Through prayer of the Rosary, we take our hearts to our Our Lady, Our Holy Mother, and receive loving grace. She desires that we take our special intentions, requests and prayers to her. There is no problem Our Mother turns away from... It is powerful prayer!

The Holy Rosary.org is a beautiful site offering the history and benefits of Rosary prayer, as well as the individual prayers for praying the Rosary. And here is a good Beginner's Guide to the Rosary. Another great site for Rosary Prayer is found here at the Rosary Center. You do not have to be Catholic to pray the Rosary or enjoy the riches that come from this prayer!

Praying the Rosary takes only about 20 minutes... Time spent with Jesus and Our Lady, I want to try for more of that!

Hail Mary, full of grace,
the Lord is with thee;
blessed art thou amongst women,
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us sinners,
now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

Our Lady of the Rosary, pray for us!

  1. yes. pray for us. because if left to our own devices even in this 21st century...
mankind seems to be more concerned with power and corruption even than in Biblical times.
'the root of all evil' is apparently forevermore. and the lesson is never learned.
and on a cheerier note. we're getting rain finally! and it's heavenly cool. it has stayed so HOT right up until yesterday. maybe we'll have a beautiful Autumn after all! one can only hope. :)

    1. The whole world seems a sad state of affairs, doesn't it...and that things just get worse. It is hard to have faith in elected officials, who are supposed to be on our side and helping the world. There is so much greed, corruption and selfishness. :( And it is sad how things seem to keep repeating themselves in terms of what's happening in the world... Thanks goodness for the Rosary! This prayer helps me re-ground in faith, hope, and love! And hoping VERY much you will have a cool and delightful autumn yet, Tammy! ;) ((HUGS))

  2. Oh, my sweet sister in Christ,
Thanks for this post. I didn’t know that much about Praying the Rosary. I love the prayer. I love the Savior’s Mother Mary. She is such an important part of His life story here on earth. She was the chosen vessel to bare this wonderful Son of our Heavenly Father. We believe in Christ, he is our Savior, Redeemer, Exampler, and the list goes on. I belong to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The Savior is the leader of the restored church of Jesus Christ. Our church is exactly like the church that the Savior formed in His day. We believe in modern day Prophet and Apostles. This weekend, we enjoyed two days of our semi-annual General Conference and listened to our Prophet and 12 Apostles. It was indeed a spiritual feast for us.
Mary plays such a glorious part in our church too. We don’t pray to her but we do revere her as the Mother of our Savior.
I will enjoy reading all about what the Rosary is all about. I love learning about these kinds of spiritual things.
This was a lovely post and I enjoyed reading it.
Sending loving and warm thoughts and big hugs your way! Thanks for being a favorite sister in Christ!!

    1. Glad you've had a great pray-filled weekend and Sabbath, LeAnn... I know how big these Conference weekends are for you. :) It is so good to take some time, and prayer, to consider Mary's vital role in the Christian story--it is just amazing! I LOVE that wherever Mary is, there is Jesus... and wherever Jesus is Mary, our Mother is... it is a double blessing! :)

  3. Like LeAnn, we have had a wonderfully spirit filled weekend with our General Conference and all of the talks. You don't have to belong to our church to be inspired by them I don't think. I have a Rosary that I keep by my bed. I like to hold it when I pray. I love Mary and think that she was such an inspirational woman and I know that she was and is very special to God. I love how you share you faith my sweet friend. It is one of your special gifts I believe. Love you so much. Hugs and kisses to you all! xoxo
